Donald Wells, CPA
President & Owner of Wells, CPA
Donald Wells is a seasoned CPA with 30 years of experience, including roles at Price Waterhouse and Schneider Downs. He has specialized in industries such as Food Service, Oil & Gas, and Automotive, with the past 20 years focused on the Non-Profit sector—his true professional passion. In 2015, he founded Wells, CPA LLC in Columbus, Ohio, now serving over 300 nonprofit organizations.
Donald holds a bachelor’s from West Virginia Wesleyan College, a Master’s in Accounting from Western Governors University, and is a licensed CPA in Ohio. He serves on several boards in Central Ohio and was recently appointed to the State of Ohio’s Audit Committee.
Kirsten Johnson, CPA
Manager
We are excited to welcome Kirsten, our second CPA, to our team!
Kirsten has a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from The University of Montana, as well as a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Montana State University. She began her career in public accounting nearly five years ago and has since developed a strong background in auditing not-for-profit organizations and small local governments.
Kirsten earned her CPA license in January 2022 and now joins Wells, CPA LLC as a Manager. She will work alongside firm owner Donald Wells. In her new role, Kirsten will be responsible for coordinating audits, assigning tasks to audit staff, managing fieldwork, and mentoring junior team members.
Sean Merchant, CPA
Senior
We are excited to welcome Sean, our third CPA, to our team!
Sean earned his CPA license in May 2011 and now joins Wells, CPA LLC as a Senior Auditor. He will work alongside firm owner Donald Wells. In his new role, Sean will be responsible for coordinating and planning audits, assigning tasks to audit staff, managing and performing fieldwork, and mentoring team members. He has a master’s degree in Non-Profit Management from New York University, and a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University. He began his career as a non-profit management consultant and transitioned to public accounting fifteen years ago, with stops in the financial services industry, including the Federal Reserve Bank. Recent consulting assignments have resulted in the rediscovery of his passion for working with not-for-profit organizations.
